Police in Florida are investigating a prank phone call that resulted in an ESPN reporter smashing a hotel window.
On October 21, Elizabeth Moreau, who covers college sports for the network, was awoken by a phone call from a man claiming to be the manager of the hotel in Gainesville where she was staying. He claimed there was a gas leak in the hotel.
Among other things, he instructed her to get the lid of the toilet and throw it through the window so oxygen could get into the room. She did so -- and the sound of breaking glass is heard on the call.
But it was all a prank, broadcast live in the chat room of a group called Pranknet. The Canadian-based group has pulled off similar pranks in the past, causing much property damage. It is run by a man named Tariq Malik, who was reportedly the caller in this case.
